What you’ll find

  • Weather - Los Cabos maintains a desert climate with sunshine almost year-round. Summers (June to October) are hot with occasional rain showers, while winters (December to February) are mild and pleasant.

  • Currency- The local currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN), but US Dollars were accepted everywhere we went.

  • Getting Around - We use Uber to get around Los Cabos, and had booked this shuttle to pick us up/bring us back to the airport. Ruben was super nice, and brought us waters and tequila.

  • Bug Spray: Mosquitos do come out at night

  • Clothing:

    • Sun Protection- swimsuits, hat, sunblock (this is my fav brand- Hailey Bieber recommended), and sunglasses

    • Clothing - Lightweight clothing is a must, it gets super hot.

    • Shoes - I stuck to sandals and flip flops. We didn’t do anything too adventurous that required closed toe shoes. However, if you want to hike Pedregal, sneakers would be ideal.

You really can’t go wrong with any location in Los Cabos, but each one has a little bit of a different vibe.

1. Cabo San Lucas: Known for its vibrant nightlife, bustling marina, and iconic Land's End rock formations, Cabo San Lucas is ideal for anyone seeking a lively atmosphere. You’ll find a ton of resorts, from all-inclusive beachfront properties to luxury hotels with stunning views of the Sea of Cortez.

2. San José del Cabo: A charming, traditional town with a historic center filled with art galleries, boutiques, and colonial architecture. San José del Cabo provides a more relaxed and cultural experience compared to Cabo San Lucas. Accommodation options here include boutique hotels and quaint guesthouses.

3. The Corridor (Tourist Corridor): This stretch of coastline between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo is home to many upscale resorts and exclusive communities. It offers beautiful beaches, world-class golf courses, and stunning ocean views. The Corridor provides a quieter and more secluded stay, perfect for relaxation and enjoying luxury amenities.

On our trip we stayed at Marquis Los Cabos, a stunning 5-star all inclusive resort. Food, pool, rooms, and service were incredible, and we had no complaints. Although it was all-inclusive, we had a handful of our meals and drinks at hotels outside of the hotel (I’ll get to those later).

AirBnb is also a common route, and you’ll find some great options on the site. If you prefer to stay at a hotel, here are some others we explored:

Los Cabos is renowned for its stunning beaches and views. There’s a few things to note:

  • Swimming Conditions: While the beaches in Los Cabos offer picturesque views and soft sands, the Pacific Ocean side (Cabo San Lucas) is known to have strong currents and rough waves. Waves and currents are so bad, that our hotel actually made us sign a waiver/agreement that we wouldn’t go in the water at the resort. The Sea of Cortez side (San José del Cabo and The Corridor) generally has calmer waters, ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

  • Wildlife: Keep an eye out for marine life like dolphins and whales, especially during migration seasons (late fall to early spring). Los Cabos is a prime spot for whale watching, offering opportunities to see humpback whales, gray whales, and even orcas from the shore or on boat tours.

  • Medano Beach : The most popular and lively beach in Cabo San Lucas, located just a short walk from the downtown area and marina. It’s a safer beach for swimming, and the area is full of bars and restaurants with the option for water activities.

  • Lovers Beach & Divorce Beach: Located by the iconic Arch, and only accessible by boat, Lovers Beach is swimmable and known for its tranquil waters. Close by is Divorce Beach, which on the contrary, offers strong waves and rocky terrain.

Beach Clubs

If you’re looking for a beach club, here are the ones that were on our list and a couple we visited. I’d recommend making a reservation in advance:

  • Taboo Beach Club - Before you join the party at night, enjoy the day at this stunning beach club for delicious food, drinks, and good music

  • Billygans Beach Club - Another popular spot known for serving whole grilled fish right on the beach!

  • Sur Beach House - An all time favorite of ours! Stunning beach club, and upscale restaurant with incredible cocktails and food. Definitely a must visit.

  • Mango Deck - A famous one located in Medano Beach, with a constant lively vibe. Make sure you’re there early for good seats, closer to the entertainment.

Outdoor Activities

  • Zip-Lining - Sierra de la Laguna mountains peak at 6,000 feet and are covered in oak and pine forests. Take a zip-line tour over the rivers and the scenic mountains.

  • Whale Watching - As mentioned earlier, spot some whales from December to April to see the humpback and gray whales in the Sea of Cortez. This is one of the highly rated excursions we found.

  • Fishing - Cabo is known to have some of the best fishing in the world. You can find marlin, wahoo, and dorado not too far out, and you can find tuna 25 miles offshore. If you plan on fishing, be sure to apply for a license with the group you’re going with.

  • Surfing - Los Cabos is a popular spot to catch some waves. Zippers, is located in Costa Azul, and offers consistent waves for intermediate and advanced surfers.

  • Kayaking/Paddle-boarding - If surfing isn’t your cup of tea, you can resort to more relaxing sports such as kayaking and paddle-boarding.

  • Golf - Take some swings at one of the world class golf courses along the coast.

Things to See

  • Arch of Cabo San Lucas - Probably one of the most prominent sights in Cabo! Take a boat out for some photos and to see the iconic rock formation located where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez.

  • Cabo San Lucas Marina - A beautiful marina with shops, restaurants, and boutique shops.

  • San Jose del Cabo - A historic downtown area with restaurants, art galleries, and shops.

  • Todos Santos - A cute town located one hour out of Cabo San Lucas, with local cuisine, quiet beaches, and historical buildings.

  • Hike Pedregal - A 4.3 mi slightly challenging hike that takes about 2 hours to complete. It’s recommended that this hike is not done alone.

Our hotel was all inclusive, but we did sneak out for a few meals. These are some of the restaurants we had on our radar:

  • Bella California - Italian restaurant in Villa del Palomar Resort and Spa. If you’re looking for a picturesque spot, with good food, this is where you want to be.

  • Tomatillos - Also located in the Villa del Palomar Resort and Spa, dine here for a farm to table dining experience!

  • Agua Restaurant - Right on the water, and located at One&Only Palmilla Resort, you wont leave disappointed.

  • El Farallon - A high-end seafood restaurant located in the Waldorf Astoria.

  • Flora Farms - Located 30 minutes outside the city, and the restaurant grows all their products themselves! Be sure to reserve early, as this is a Cabo hotspot.

  • Sunset Mona Lisa - If you’re looking for a Mediterranean dining experience, with views of the famous Arch, then you’ve found your spot!

  • Edith’s Mexican - If you’re looking for authentic upscale Mexican, fresh seafood and steak, and a stunning ambiance, then Edith’s is a must visit! The table side Cesar Salad is a showstopper! Keep in mind, this spot is on the more expensive end.

  • Romeo & Julieta - When you decide you want a break from Mexican food, check out Romeo & Julieta for delicious Italian food, live music, and a beautiful ambiance.

On the more casual side …

  • The Office - A fun restaurant/bar hot spot in Los Cabos right on the beach. Delicious food, good service, and live music!

  • La Lupita Taco & Mezcal - Located in San Jose’s art district, with a unique and delicious food menu. This is the spot for the foodies!

  • Tacos Gardenias - A super popular spot for tacos and burritos!
